Kris Brown joins the Topos Institute

Kris Brown joined the Topos Institute as a research scientist in 2022, after his postdoc here.

He was in the lab from 2021 to 2022, arriving from a PhD in chemical engineering at Stanford, and he left a large mark: he is the largest contributor to Catlab.jl and GATlab.jl, the libraries the rest of AlgebraicJulia is built on, and worked on ACSets.jl underneath them. His paper with Evan Patterson, Tyler Hanks and James Fairbanks on computational category-theoretic rewriting won best paper at ICGT 2022.

At Topos he works on model-based computing, in a team building applied category theory software in Julia and Rust. The lab and Evan Patterson’s group at Topos maintain the AlgebraicJulia ecosystem together, so this is less a departure than a change of desk.
